About
I’m Shaikh Shahid, a Principal Software Architect and systems engineer. I build production-grade distributed systems, data infrastructure, and AI developer tools for engineering teams.
My work sits between production engineering and applied research. I’m interested in systems that need clear architecture, predictable performance, and enough pragmatism to keep working when the easy assumptions break.
What I work on
- Distributed systems and data platforms
- Low-latency databases, caching, and backend infrastructure
- AI agents, LLM tools, and local-first AI workflows
- Developer experience, automation, and CLI tooling
- Architecture, reliability, and performance engineering
How I work
I start with the constraints: workload, failure modes, latency, data ownership, and the operational reality around the system. From there, I prefer simple interfaces, measurable trade-offs, and designs that can be explained clearly to the people who will build and operate them.
I use writing as part of that process. Explaining an idea forces the important questions into the open, while implementation and experiments reveal which parts survive contact with reality.
Selected work
I’m building Redistill, a Redis-compatible key-value system focused on predictable latency and production ergonomics. I’m also exploring practical AI infrastructure through projects such as MemX and other local-first agent tools.
You can explore the rest of my work through the Projects, Writing, and Papershelf pages.
Books and writing
I’ve authored four technical books covering blockchain, Azure Cosmos DB, RethinkDB, and Sails.js. My writing includes system design notes, database internals, AI experiments, and practical engineering guides.
